Welcome to Shafer Township. Working together for a Better Future

Welcome to

Working together for a
Better Future

Hello everyone,

Fall has arrived and with that the Township crew is hard at work getting ready for winter. If you have noticed the gravel on your road has been pushed to one side, and there are clumps of dirt in the roadway, there is a reason:

With the recent stretch of dry weather we can't properly grade the roads.  We can, however, get some of the washboards and potholes out by grading the gravel to one edge.  We return when there is sufficient moisture to lay the gravel down so it will stay in place.

The clumps of dirt on the road are due to reclaiming the gravel that has been pushed to the edges over time, by traffic and snow plowing. This is re-incorporated back into the roadway. The benefit to this stretch of dry weather is that it allows us to work on this much needed project.  The clumps will break down in a few days and should blend in with the road.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

About Shafer township

Shafer Township is located in southeast Chisago County, bordered to the east by the city of Taylors Falls and the St. Croix River, which is the MinnesotaWisconsin border. The city of Shafer is in the southwest part of the township but an administratively separate entity. The unincorporated community of Palmdale is in the north.

U.S. Highway 8 follows most of the southern boundary of the township, turning northeast to travel to Taylors Falls, then across the river to St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, and leading west to Lindstrom and Chisago City. State Highway 95 (MN 95) crosses the north part of the township, passing through Palmdale and leading southeast to Taylors Falls and northwest to North Branch.

The November meeting will be held on Thursday, November 10th at 7:00 pm at the Shafer Town Hall.
