Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone is enjoying the fall weather. As winter approaches we want to remind you of a few items:
1) Please do not plow your driveway snow across the road. It is illegal by Minnesota State Statute.
2) The Township does not have a Clear Road Policy. This means that there needs to be a minimum of 2 inches of snow before plowing roads, or plowing can be done at the township's discretion.
3) When placing your garbage cans out, please put them onto the shoulder as far as you can, and remove them as soon as possible after they have been emptied. Shafer Township is not responsible for any garbage cans that get tipped over while plowing snow. Please see our garbage can policy under Township policies and permits for more information.
4) The Township is not responsible for mailbox damage caused by snow coming off the snow plow. The Township will only be responsible for mail box damage if the installed mailbox is on a MNDOT approved mailbox support post, and only if it is directly struck by Township equipment. Please see the mailbox policy under Township policies and permits.
Thank you for your continued support, and as always if you have questions or concerns please let us know.

Public Comment Sought for Chisago County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan
Chisago County has completed an updated draft of its Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) and is now seeking public feedback. Like all Minnesota counties, Chisago County is vulnerable to a variety of natural hazards such as tornadoes, windstorms, severe winter storms, flooding, drought, and extreme temperatures, which can threaten the loss of life and property in the county. Planning for natural disasters minimizes the impact of events that can cause vast economic loss and personal hardship. All county residents, as well as other interested agency or organizational stakeholders are strongly encouraged to review and offer feedback on the interactive website, PDF of the draft plan, and proposed local mitigation actions. The review and comment period is open for a period of 15 days through December 2, 2024. The public can access the plan using the following hyperlinks:
Chisago County HMP website homepage
Chisago County Mitigation Action Charts
The full Chisago County Press Release may be viewed at:
Chisago County Mitigation Press Release.
Community feedback is vital to the success of the plan. Chisago County invites public review and feedback of the draft plan prior to submitting it to the State of Minnesota and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for review. Feedback may be provided via the online comment forms or directly to Chisago County Emergency Management.
