About Shafer township
Shafer Township is located in southeast Chisago County, bordered to the east by the city of Taylors Falls and the St. Croix River, which is the Minnesota–Wisconsin border. The city of Shafer is in the southwest part of the township but an administratively separate entity. The unincorporated community of Palmdale is in the north.
U.S. Highway 8 follows most of the southern boundary of the township, turning northeast to travel to Taylors Falls, then across the river to St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, and leading west to Lindstrom and Chisago City. State Highway 95 (MN 95) crosses the north part of the township, passing through Palmdale and leading southeast to Taylors Falls and northwest to North Branch.
*IMPORTANT UPDATE*
NEW PHONE NUMBER!
The new number for the Shafer Township Hall
will be 715-501-6162.
This will be a substantial cost savings for the township. We will be saving approximately $140 each month by making this change. Unfortunately, we were unable to get a 651 area code assigned, but with the savings we will experience, we feel it will be worth it.
Please note this important change.
IMPORTANT WINTER POLICIES
SNOWPLOWING: Per township policy, the township will plow snow as soon as possible after the snowfall has stopped.
TRASH CANS: Please pay attention to the placement of your trash cans. The township is not responsible for any trash cans that get hit or knocked over by a snowplow.
MAILBOXES: The Township will also not be responsible for mailbox damage by snow coming off the plow. The Township will be responsible if your mailbox is directly hit by the snowplow, however the mailbox must be mounted on a MNDOT approved swing arm post.
PLOWING YOUR PRIVATE DRIVEWAY:
Finally, a friendly reminder that it is a violation of Minnesota state law to plow snow from private driveways, onto, or across public roadways.
-
This is a misdemeanor under Minnesota State Statute 160.2715 s (a) (1).
-
Piles of snow put onto the roadway, or road right of way, can freeze into a solid mass creating a hazardous situation for vehicles and snowplows.
-
Piles of snow put onto the roadway, or road right of way, increase the chance of drifting snow into the roadway.
-
Accidents and damages caused by putting piles of snow onto the roadway, or road right of way, may result in liability to the property owner, and the person responsible for plowing the snow onto the road, or road right of way.
Township policies are available for review on the policies page of this website.
